Transactions of the Mycological Society of India
The word Kavaka represents the Sanskrit word for fungus. Kavaka is the official journal of the Mycological Society of India. Kavaka is an international journal and publishes peer-reviewed, original articles and reviews on all aspects of mycology.
SCOPE
Kavaka publishes original articles and reviews on all aspects of mycology, including conventional and molecular taxonomy, phylogeny, diversity, ecology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and biotechnology.
MANUSCRIPTS
Articles should be forwarded by email to the Editor of Kavaka, whose email address is given in the website of the Mycological Society of India (http://www.fungiindia.co.in). Manuscripts should have a high standard of science and should contribute significantly to the progress of the science of mycology. All articles will be critically peer reviewed prior for suitability before being accepted for publication. Submission of an article to Kavaka presupposes that the corresponding author has complied with the following.
- The article has not been published elsewhere, nor submitted elsewhere for publication during the period when it is under consideration by Kavaka.
- The corresponding author and the co-authors have obtained necessary permissions by their respective institution when required.
- Concurrence of all co-authors for submission of the article to Kavaka has been obtained.
- Required permissions have been obtained from copyright owners whenever tables, figures, or text material published by others elsewhere are used in the manuscript.
The journal will not be responsible for any transgressions on the part of the corresponding author with regard to the above.
Please refer to a recent issue of the journal for the format. The manuscript should be submitted in MS Word format and typed double-spaced. Do not right justify the text. All pages should be numbered and line numbers should be provided individually for each page. Arial or Times New Roman of font size 12 should be used throughout. The first paragraph of every heading and subheading should be left-justified, while the other paragraphs should be indented.
Authors may suggest 2 possible referees to review their paper. However, all decisions on the choice of referees rest with the Editor.
The following order needs to be maintained. The first page should provide the title and abstract.
Title of the Article
The title should be concise and relevant. Full names of the authors, including the first and surnames should preferably be provided. The corresponding author should be indicated with an asterisk. Addresses of the authors should be indicated in the next line in italics. If the authors are from different institutions, this may be indicated as superscript numerals against the names of the authors and the individual addresses should be stated. The Corresponding author’s email address should be indicated below the addresses of the authors.
ABSTRACT
The abstract should not exceed 200 words. The abstract should provide a concise summary of the paper. A footnote at the end of this page should provide a running title and a maximum of 6 keywords.
INTRODUCTION
Do not exceed 400 words. The topic should be introduced, relevant literature presented, the problems stated and the objectives clearly delineated.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
This may, or may not be broken down into subheadings. Citing of earlier references is sufficient for well known, standard methodologies. However, special and relatively unfamiliar methodologies should be presented in detail.
RESULTS
Table and Figure numbers should appear sequentially in the text. Salient results of the study should be presented clealy. DNA sequences relevant to the study should be deposited in NCBI-GenBank (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank) and the final dataset should be made available to other researchers through TreeBASE submission (www.treebase.org). Details on all new species/ taxon description, including taxonomic changes should be submitted to Mycobank (http://www.mycobank.org). The manuscript should state the NCBI-GenBank accession number/s, TreeBASE accession number/s and MycoBank number/s, when applicable.
DISCUSSION
The discussion should be logical, precise and clearly relate to the results obtained. Avoid verbosity and lack of clarity. Results and Discussion should be presented separately for articles exceeding 3 printed pages. Articles less than 3 printed pages should have the two combined.
REFERENCES
References in the text should include the names of the author (up to two authors) and year of publication. References for more than three authors should be cited as et al. after the first author’s name. When two or more publications by the same author are cited in the same year, they should be designated by letters a,b,c... In the text and references. Eg., 1970a, 1970b, 1970c, etc. References at the end of the paper should be listed in alphabetical order. Please follow the format given below.

Tables
Tables should be numbered serially using Arabic numerals.
Figures
All figures, including line drawings and photographs should be numbered serially in Arabic numerals and should be arranged at the end of the text. Do not embed figures within the text. All figures should be in black and white. Half tone photographs and colour photographs should be submitted in the .jpg format. Colour art and colour photographs will be allowed when necessary and will be charged. Drawings and figures should be clear enough when fitted onto 1 or 2 columns. All figures, line drawings and photographs should be incorporated at the end of the manuscript. Explanations to figures should be given on a separate page.
Authors will be charged Rs. 500.- for every printed page of the article. The exact cost will be communicated to the corresponding author at the proof stage.
